Duration:

Two years Full-time

Entry Requirements:

GCSE level: Normally 5 GCSEs including English and Maths at Grade C or above.

Together with one of the following:
A minimum of 60 tariff points at A Level or equivalent Level 3 qualification.
Access to Higher Education: Considered on an individual basis.
Applications from mature students without academic credentials will be considered on an individual basis.
National and Advanced Diplomas in a relevant subject are accepted as a progression to a Foundation Degree and HND.

A portfolio will be required at interview.

Introduction:

The FdA in Photography & Digital Imaging is run in partnership with the University of Plymouth. The course is aimed at students who have some previous experience in photography, art or graphic design. It is an intensive, practical based course which provides the opportunity for students to study photography and associated technology in modern, purpose built facilities.

The Future:

This course may provide progression to a number of related degrees including BA (Hons) Photography at the University of Plymouth. The programme also has strong connections with University College Falmouth. Details of these arrangements are available from the course tutor.

Features:

Taught sessions are delivered buy the course team who you will see every week. You will also see visiting lecturers at certain points in the year. Methods of delivery include lectures, individual and small group tutorials, workshops, seminars, critiques and educational visits. Students also work independently on practical projects, research and critical reflection.

The course has dedicated facilities that include a large photographic studio equipped with flash lighting, a colour and black and white darkroom and Apple Mac and PC computer suites with digital printers. We have a range of cameras formats available including Canon and Hasselblad Digital SLR's alongside medium and large format film cameras.

Extra Information:

The course emphasis is on photographic practice with all students participating in the creation of original work using both traditional silver-based techniques and the latest digital technology. Other disciplines such as graphic design, book production and web design are also covered so that students can produce work that is both creative and commercially relevant.

This practical-based course provides the opportunity for students to study photography and associated technology in modern, purpose-built facilities. It is aimed at students who have some previous experience in photography, art or graphic design.

The Foundation Degree (Fd) has been in existence since September 2001 and is a new Higher Education qualification which aims to bridge the gap between education and employment. Each course is designed to maximise the benefits to both students and prospective employers with work based elements within the course structure, which can lead straight into employment or into the final year of a related Degree course.
