Truro and Penwith College Basketball Academy looks forward to links with Plymouth Raiders

Truro and Penwith College were delighted to solidify their links with the professional Plymouth-based basketball team, Plymouth Raiders.

While the College and Plymouth Raiders have always had a connection, the two are hoping that this new, stronger affiliation will be of huge benefit to both sides.

The College’s Basketball Academy, which trains hard throughout the week, looks forward to the added professionalism and support this link will provide. With new kit hot off the press and the hopes of some holiday camps and sessions with Plymouth Raiders’ British Basketball League (BBL) coaches, the future of Truro and Penwith College basketball is looking strong.

The College also hopes to head up to Plymouth to train at Marjon where the Plymouth Raiders train, again giving the opportunity for the students to enjoy the professional basketball experience.

But it’s not just the students of the College that stand to benefit. Andy Cummins, who helps run the Academy at Truro College with Lisa Sharman, said: “We are hoping to establish a similar link to the one between our Rugby Academy and the Exeter Chiefs. The College will also be supporting youth basketball by investing in the county development programme. This investment will improve the provision and opportunity for youngsters to get involved in basketball throughout the county and will help to create a pathway to playing basketball for all youth ages.”
