Cornish records tumble at Schools’ Athletic Championships

Paddy Swan and Georgia Doyle-Lay set new standards in Cornwall.

Truro and Penwith students Paddy Swan and Georgia Doyle-Lay have set new county records for their respective events.

Competing at the Schools' Athletic Championships held at Par on Saturday, Swan threw a distance of 50.94 metres in the discus, while Georgia Doyle-Lay broke the Senior girls' 400m Hurdles record with a time of 65.5 seconds.

Their achievements were even more impressive considering the challenging weather conditions during the event.

Swan was recently called up to represent the Great Britain & Northern Ireland Under 20 team at the Loughborough International Athletics (LIA).

The BTEC Extended Diploma in Sports Performance & Excellence at the College, threw the discus as part of the 51-strong GB team match on Sunday 22 May at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium.

Swan is now preparing for the Welsh Under 20s, England AAA Championships and English Schools Championships this summer.
