Tom Quirke (Piano)

Tom has been playing piano from an early age. From the age of 10 he played in a band with his father Mike Quirke, a successful blues musician who sung with Alexis Korner, Georgie Fame and Rod Stewart.
Also in the band was his brother David Quirke, a Royal Academy Of Music Graduate. The family band was signed by Granada television to compose film music for a program called ‘Travel Trails’, a holiday program on LWT.

At the age of 12 Tom was selected from his school to perform in Puccini’s opera Turandot, this was performed at The Royal Opera House for a year, and a one off performance at the Royal Albert Hall.

After studying on the Popular Music course at Truro College, Tom moved straight onto the Jazz Degree Course where he achieved a 1st Class Degree with Honours. Working his way through the academic years, Tom has managed to play with great musicians including Raphael Ravenscroft (saxophonist for Baker Street), Lillian Boutte (New Orleans Jazz Ambassador) and Tim Whitehead amongst many others. He has also managed to record five albums working with many different blues and jazz musicians.

Tom is currently furthering himself by studying a PGCE in teaching and constantly working with different local jazz legends such as Viv Rodd, Alan Thompson and Pete ‘Kubryk’ Townsend.
Tom is also working in many different bands like Chromozone (a jazz fusion band), The Mike Quirke Blues Band and the Carrie Mann Jazz Quartet, as well as solo piano and duo concerts around the West Country.
Tom’s influences are Michel Pettrucciani, Jason Rebello, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tynor and of course Viv Rodd.
