Steve Buckley (Sax)

Steve was born in Kent in 1959. Began playing Clarinet aged ten, and took up the Saxophone six years later. He was a member of the “Loose Tubes Jazz Orchestra” touring and recording with them from 1985 until their demise in 19990.
During that time, Steve was closely associated with the London. African and South American music scene, playing with such bands as the Zairean Soukas Band – Taxi Pata Pata and Robert Plais Latin Jazz Ensemble.
His own projects included Orchestra Rasiki, co-led with long time associate Bassist Chris Bachelor, and featuring Kenyan “Nyatiti Player” Ayub Ogada.
Steve has been involved in several Django Bates projects including the Third Policeman, Human Chain and Delightful Precipice. A continuing connection with African music led to work with the Pan African Orchestra in 1994 and Kakatsitsi in 1996. Both these groups hailed from Ghana. More recently, Steve has been working with the Mozambique band Mussukos.
Steves main area of work has always been within the ‘Contemporary Jazz Scene’ playing and recording with such musicians as Myra Melford, Jim Black, John Taylor. Julian Arguelles. Oren Mardhall, Steve Noble, Huw Warren, Mark Lockart and Seb Rochford to name but a few.
Steve’s close association with Chris Bachelor still continues with such projects as ‘Life as we know it’ and BBC award winning ‘Big Air’ featuring Myra Melford, Jim Black and Oren Marshall.
