Student's thoughts
Ewan Macauley ![]() BA (Hons) Contemporary World Jazz Ewan studied A levels locally before spending some time travelling. He started a university level course at a different institution but decided this was not the right course for him. He wanted to learn to write music and although music technology, the subject of his previous degree, was important he wanted to focus more on actual performance. Ewan was working in a music studio in Falmouth when he first heard about the Jazz degree at Truro College. Working as an editor he met a lot of session musicians who were well experienced and had perfect musicianship. Seeing professional musicians inspired me to go back to studying to really hone my performance skills. I'm really enjoying the course and am so glad I came back to study in Cornwall, the countryside is really inspiring. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rebecca Jackson ![]() BA (Hons) Contemporary World Jazz |

Rebecca has now graduated and loved the course. She feels the course is aimed at the just the right level. The lecturing staff are really supportive and experienced which gives it the right combination. Rebecca's goal is to become a professional Jazz Cellist and perhaps get some experience working on cruise ships and travel the world in a musical way. "The Jazz course is fantastic, underpinned by an exceptional campus in the heart of Cornwall." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jamie Crowle ![]() BA (Hons) Contemporary World Jazz Before the course Jamie was studying the National Diploma in Music Practice, his music teacher suggested listening to some Jazz which he did not know much about and he became more interested in this form of music. ‘I love the course, its great. The lecturers are really helpful and really focus on your skills as a musician. The course covers a really wide range of subjects, including arranging and composing. I’d like to work as a musician and possibly follow work on cruise ships when I graduate. We regularly gig together and perform as a group outside of College which is great experience. I would say to anyone interested in Jazz, go and see as many gigs as you can, talk to people who play Jazz. This course is brilliant in preparing you to be a professional musician and Cornwall is a great place to be’ Listen to these tracks played by Jamie: Stella by Starlight Anthropology |
