Combined Universities in Cornwall
What is CUC?
Truro College is a partner in the
Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC),
a pioneering initiative supporting a
massive expansion of Higher Education
facilities and courses across the
region.
To date the project has attracted
investment totalling £120 million to
develop new courses and to build and
equip new facilities at numerous sites
around Cornwall. Truro
College’s Helford, Allen and Fal
buildings have all received investment
via CUC.
The partnership has enabled students to
share in the social and academic
facilities across the colleges, so
students may work in other libraries and
attend social events throughout the
county.
The choice to study in Cornwall Cornwall
has always been a wonderful place
to live but aside from a couple of
specialist institutions, until recently
the county had little to offer people
wishing to go into higher education.
Many local people were faced with a
harsh choice: to leave Cornwall to
pursue their studies or to stay and
enjoy Cornwall’s unique lifestyle
benefits at the
expense of their ambitions. This
situation was bad news for potential
students and hugely damaging to
Cornwall’s economy.
Thanks to the CUC and the investment
made in the project by the Objective One
partnership, the South West of England
Regional Development Agency, the Higher
Education Funding Council for England
and Cornwall County Council, there are
now over 400 high quality, distinctive
courses across
a broad range of disciplines to choose
from in Cornwall.
