COURSE INFORMATION

The FdA in Photography & Digital Imaging is run in partnership with the University of Plymouth. The course is aimed at students who have some previous experience in photography, art or graphic design. It is an intensive, practical based course which provides the opportunity for students to study in a modern, purpose built facility.

The programme follows a series of modules in which are run by the course team who you will see every week. You will also see visiting lecturers at certain points in the year. Methods of delivery include lectures, individual and small group tutorials, workshops, seminars, critiques and educational visits. Students also work independently on practical projects, research and critical reflection.

The programme has s full time pathway over two years and a part time pathway over four years (that runs as an evening class). On successful completion of the Foundation Degree you are able to take up a place on the third year of the BA (hons) Photography programme at The University of Plymouth.

The course has dedicated facilities that include a large photographic studio equipped with flash lighting, a colour and black and white darkroom and Apple Mac and PC computer suites with digital printers. We have a range of cameras formats available including Canon and Hasselblad Digital SLR's alongside medium and large format film cameras.

The course emphasis is on photographic practice with all students participating in the creation of original work using both digital technology and traditional silver-based systems. Other disciplines such as graphic design, book production and web design are also covered so that students can put together a portfolio of images and self promotional material. The course also aims to develop student’s understanding of photography in a wider context.
